National Holidays Around the World

How do you celebrate July 4th?  You might display the Stars and Stripes on your front porch, or dress in red, white, and blue. You might march in a parade, attend a family picnic, or watch a spectacular fireworks display. People in other countries also celebrate important national holidays.

Like the United States, many countries celebrate an annual holiday that honors the nation and its people. This may be a day marking the anniversary of independence from the rule of another country. Or it may be a day remembering another kind of historical event that is significant to the nation. In most cases, one word defines all of these celebrations. That word is freedom.
